TRACE means remembering that almost everything you do online leaves a lasting record. Posts, photos, comments and searches can be seen, saved and resurfaced years later, so build a footprint you will be proud of.
What it means
TRACE is awareness of your digital footprint: the trail of data and content you leave behind. Much of it is permanent, even when you think you have deleted it.
Why it matters
A footprint can open doors or close them. Schools, employers, and even future friends look people up. A thoughtless post made at fifteen can surface at twenty-five. Understanding TRACE means making choices today that protect your reputation tomorrow.
How to practise TRACE
- Assume anything you post can become permanent and public.
- Think about how a post will look to you in five years.
- Check your privacy settings, but do not rely on them alone.
- Build a footprint that reflects who you want to be.
