FILTER means sorting the useful and safe from the harmful and false. The internet offers everything at once, so the skill is choosing what to let in, what to act on, and what to block out.
What it means
FILTER is about managing the flood: deciding which sources to trust, which content is healthy, and which to ignore or block. It protects both your safety and your wellbeing.
Why it matters
An unfiltered internet overwhelms and misleads. It mixes good advice with dangerous nonsense, and healthy content with harmful content. People who filter well protect their time, their mental health, and their decisions. It is the difference between using the internet and being used by it.
How to practise FILTER
- Decide in advance which sources you trust.
- Be willing to block, mute or leave harmful spaces.
- Notice how content makes you feel, and protect your wellbeing.
- Quality over quantity: less noise, better information.
The same idea, two lives
