PAUSE means stopping for a moment before you click, share, pay or reply. If a message is rushing you to act quickly, that pressure is itself the warning sign. Slow down, check, and only then act.
What it means
PAUSE is the habit of putting a small gap between a message and your reaction. Most online harm, from scams to regrettable posts, happens in the heat of a fast, emotional moment.
Why it matters
Scammers and manipulators rely on speed. The fake bank text, the too-good offer, the outrage-bait post are all designed to make you act before you think. A person who pauses breaks that trap. The pause is short, but it is where good judgement lives.
How to practise PAUSE
- When a message pushes you to act fast, slow down first.
- Ask who sent this, and what do they want me to do.
- Verify through a channel you trust before clicking or paying.
- If in doubt, do nothing yet. A real message can wait.
