CARE

Respect and responsibility online

CARE means treating people online with the same respect you would offer face to face, and taking responsibility for what you post. Before you send, ask whether it is kind, whether it is true, and whether you would be comfortable if everyone saw it.

What it means

CARE is the foundation of digital citizenship. It covers how you treat others in messages, comments and groups, and how you carry yourself as someone whose words and posts have real effects on real people.

Why it matters

The internet can make cruelty feel cheap and consequence-free, but it is neither. A harsh comment can wound a classmate, and a careless post can damage a reputation, a friendship, or a livelihood. People who practise CARE build trust, and trust is what makes someone safe and respected online.

How to practise CARE

  1. Treat people online the way you would treat them in person.
  2. Before posting, ask: is it kind, is it true, is it necessary?
  3. Do not forward content that mocks, shames or bullies someone.
  4. If someone is being harmed online, support them and report it.

The same idea, two lives

Practise it in a game: Kindness Court (Young Track).
