How strong is my password?
A strong password is long (at least 12 characters), mixes upper and lower case, numbers and symbols, and is not a real word, name or date. This coach shows your password's strength and a rough time-to-crack, all privately on your device.
Is it safe to type my password into this tool?
Yes. Your password is never sent anywhere and never saved. All the checking happens inside your own browser. Even so, for extra peace of mind you can test a password very similar to yours rather than the exact one.
What makes a good password?
Length beats complexity. A passphrase of four random words (for example 'mango-rail-quiet-drum') is both strong and easy to remember. Avoid your name, birthday, phone number or common words like 'password' or '123456'.
Should I use the same password everywhere?
No. If one site is breached, every account sharing that password is exposed. Use a different password for each important account, and turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) where you can. That is the LOCK framework in action.
